Data Workbench is a set of tools and utilities that facilitates decisionsupport, ad hoc queries and reports, and database administration. It isan interactive visually-oriented tool that can be used effectively bynovices, as well as more sophisticated programmers.The Visual Query Language (VQL) lets users compose and run complex SQLqueries with a "point and pick" visual interface. VQL automaticallypresents appropriate joins among the columns of two of more tables. Iteliminates the complexities of multiple selection criteria, sort orders,and aggregation. VQL can also serve as an interactive learning tool;because as the VQL query is built, the corresponding SQL statement isdisplayed on the bottom portion of the screen.For the sophisticated user, the Data Workbench SQL facility letsdevelopers compose and run SQL queries and define store procedures,triggers, and integrity rules in Transact-SQL.
